claire_evans Posted February 7, 2020 Posted February 7, 2020 Hi Just wondering if it possible to change the main teacher for a class without re-importing from NOVA. I am running an Individual Report which references the class teacher. However the class teacher is no longer a member of staff so is coming up as blank on the report. I know that what I need to do is change it in NOVA and re-import but I do not manage the NOVA timetable and the person who does is halfway through making some changes, so it not currently in an importable state. Is there anything I can do through Edit Lesson Staff and Rooms that will (even temporarily) allow me to set another teacher as the main teacher for the purpose of running the reports, as I don't want to send them out with a blank teacher on them. Thanks

claire_evans Posted February 7, 2020 Author Posted February 7, 2020 But that doesn't change the class teacher pulled through on an individual report does it? Not on mine anyway, because I did try that...
Cheesywolf Posted February 7, 2020 Posted February 7, 2020 What happens if you change the 'effective date' of the report in section 2: Generate, to a date before the teacher left?
TLARWise Posted February 7, 2020 Posted February 7, 2020 I would have thought it would (never tried it myself). When you changed the teacher name what was the date from you used for the new teacher and what effective date was the individual report set to?
claire_evans Posted February 7, 2020 Author Posted February 7, 2020 The problem is that he is still set as the main teacher through Staff Groups on the SIMS Employee details page, so no matter what I do to the lesson teachers through Edit Lesson Staff and Rooms, he still seems to 'own' the class. I have completely removed him from all timetabled lessons using Edit Lesson Staff and Rooms for the whole of history, but SIMS still seems to regard him as the Class Teacher for the purposes of the tag in Individual Reports, so still puts his name in if I set the effective date to a date he was still employed, or to a blank if I set the effective date to today
MartinT Posted February 7, 2020 Posted February 7, 2020 As far as I know you have always had to do it through Nova-T6. Go to Classes and set the tick box at top-right to Wide Cells. Now you can see (and amend) the teacher in charge, shown in bold to the right of the Class name. Then re-export.
claire_evans Posted February 7, 2020 Author Posted February 7, 2020 Yes, that's what I thought. I was just checking as I am unable to re-import the timetable from NOVA before I have to send out the reports. Thanks for all your help
Cheesywolf Posted February 7, 2020 Posted February 7, 2020 Sorry, I'd thought you'd said the teacher had left but you wanted to use their name on this report. Without going into Nova T6 you could create a new aspect called Class Teacher (or similar) and have it as a comment type. Add this aspect to the template marksheet and enter the name of the teacher as you want it to appear in the individual report. You can then amend the individual report and instead of selecting Class Teacher you could point to the Result of the Class Teacher aspect you have created.
Cache Posted February 7, 2020 Posted February 7, 2020 If it's just for one class, we've manually typed it on the template and generated that subject before to get around this issue. Then just regenerate/print for that one subject class.
claire_evans Posted February 7, 2020 Author Posted February 7, 2020 That is an excellent idea! I will do that. Thanks very much
MartinT Posted February 7, 2020 Posted February 7, 2020 That won't work if you're uploading reports to the Document Store for use in, say, the School Gateway app.
Cache Posted February 7, 2020 Posted February 7, 2020 Needs must, in theory you could upload everyone's, manually change the template and then reupload the class that needs the manual teachers name adding on it. I can't remember, and don't really have anyting to test it with, whether uploading from the same template overwrites the existing DMS record like with Profiles or it creates a second. If it creates a second then you could go through the 30 or so kids and delete the file from DMS.
