Windows Version and Feature Updates

Hi all,

 

We have many laptops where some users are on Windows 10 LTSB 2016 and Windows Education. We noticed that Windows 10 LTSB 2016 will not download feature updates 19xx as apparently the OS is too old.

 

My question is, do these laptops now need upgrading ?

 

My second question is ? Does this mean that every 2-3 years Windows 10 needs upgrading ?

We wipe each computer every summer. Every 2 - 3 years sounds nice and easy 🙂

They don't need upgrading in the sense of OMG DO IT NOW as they will still get security updates until 2026, but I would start to plan to either migrate them to a newer LTSC (last is 2018) or work on rolling out the current branch of Windows 10. You will struggle to continue to install the 2016 LTSC on newer hardware as modern DCH based video drivers won't work on 2016, nor will OEMs certify others for install.

My predecessor obviously had similar thoughts. Seems he installed them once (Windows 8.1) and then that was it, no rebuilds etc anything. Some were installed in 2014 and had nothing done to them afterwards.

Ironicially called LTSC when a version from only 4x years ago isn't supported anymore? That's a' Microsoft!
