Setting up SIMS.net on RDS Session-Based Server

I've just set up a new RDS server for our Staff at school.

I have managed to get most things working, and would like to add a few things. One of the key ones being SIMS so that staff have access outside of school.

I have struggled to find anything that would help me to get it working, so any help would be appreciated!

 

So far I have placed the SIMS.net in the list of available apps on the WebAccess page, but of course, it doesn't work, and I cannot find any solution for it either.

 

RDS is run on Windows Server 2019 - Session Based.

 

Any help would be appreciated!!

If you are trying to set up SIMS as an RDS RemoteApp the "RemoteApp program location" should be along the lines of "C:\Program Files\sims\SIMS .net\SIMSLoad.exe". Under "Command line parameters" select "Always use the following command-line parameters" and use "C:\Program Files\sims\SIMS .net\Pulsar.exe"

I have a vague idea of what you are talking about, but im unsure as to how to go about doing it.

Good timing I guess!? You should be doing this using Server Manager on the 2019 Server. Go to "Remote Desktop Services" you probably already have a "Collection" shown under "Collections" where you've added SIMS? If so select the collection on the left hand side and then under "RemoteApp Programs" select SIMS and right click it. Select "Edit properties" and that's where you can make the changes mentioned in the last post.

Can you run SIMS on the server ok without using the RDS interface ie. on the server desktop? What errors is it giving you?

Link to the Pulsar.exe and check "Do not allow any command-line parameters" is marked.

SIMS runs perfect on the server itself.

I have added it all in, as you can see, still getting the issue. Not sure where to find further parameters regarding Pulsar.exe

@cscc does it a different way to myself, worth trying that too.

 

If SIMS runs ok on the server it must be something to do with the RemoteApp configuration. Are you logging in and out of the web portal each time you make a change or forcibly refreshing the page to make sure it's updated?

Sorry to make it clearer.

 

General Section: "RemoteApp program location": Full path to pulsar.exe in here.

Parameters Section: "Do not allow any command-line parameters" checked.

 

Note: Check the "Task Manager" on the RDS server (Details Tab) to see if the .exe is actually running as the user logged into the RDWeb portal.

 

Failing that check the event logs.. Application and Service Logs - Microsoft - Windows - TerminalServices - RemoteConnectionManager - Operational

Hi Both,

 

I have tried the second method, and that seems to work perfect!

Loads the Login Box from SIMS as expected, and SIMS then loads as normal!

 

Is there any way of changing the Pulsar.exe icon for the WebAccess view?

 

Question, do I have to keep both on there as default apps shown in the WebAccess, or can I get rid of the SIMS.net one and keep the Pulsar.exe one.

May be a difference between x86 and x64 versions? The configuration I posted follows what's configured in our standard desktop shortcuts for SIMS and works fine here.

 

Keep the one that works for you and remove the other, they are independent.
