If I write a formula everything appears to be working. However if I then either edit, copy, move, or in any way, shape or form touch that formula excel is re-formatting the cell to text. This isn't happening consistently, sometimes it works fine and as it should, sometimes it doesn't. Our IT Support cannot work out what is causing the issue, how to stop it (other than manually formatting the cells when the issue occurs) and why it is frequent, but not consistent.

**just to add - it doesn't seem to be related to the complexity of the formula.

I have tried with auto calculate on and off. Not sure what you mean by volatile functions? If you mean Macros etc, most of the workbooks have them.

thanks

no, no volatile functions. Becoming increasingly frustrating to work with. This morning every formula I worked with converted to text, then suddenly starts to work as it should. Same worksheet, same types of formula.

I've also had odd things like this happen with Excel 2016, plus lots of other issues with screen refresh. One tip I've read is to do a find and replace for = with = but haven't tried that yet.

oddly enough, haven't had any issues at all for a few days! Everything seems to be running ok at the minute. It is very odd though. If it happens again I will look into the replace = with = and see what happens.

thanks
