Reboot_IT Posted January 10, 2020 Posted January 10, 2020 Hello, Some emails to distribution groups EG: All staff are finding their way into the "Promotions" tab which is causing people to miss them. Is there a way to either turn this feature off or prevent it from happening? Thanks
jthompson Posted January 10, 2020 Posted January 10, 2020 If user's configure their inbox to not display any of those categories, those messages will then just show in their inbox as normal. In Gmail, users need to click on the cog, then Configure Inbox and leave only Primary enabled. Not sure if there's a way to do that on their behalf from the Admin console.
Reboot_IT Posted January 10, 2020 Author Posted January 10, 2020 I was hoping for a way to do it globally to be honest. It's affecting a few of our schools.
jthompson Posted January 10, 2020 Posted January 10, 2020 I think Gmail classifies messages in the Inbox according to some black box algorithm after they're delivered to the inbox. There doesn't appear to be any control over that for us as admins and neither does there appear to be a way to adjust inbox settings for users to turn the category tabs off. I suspect that even if you had a setting in the Admin console to whitelist certain messages, etc. it wouldn't make any difference, since the messages are reaching inboxes just fine.

Made a joke to one of our techs that our students with ipads might start doing it. We already get enough broken iPads! (Maybe they're doing it already )
