TwistedHelixis Posted January 8, 2020 Posted January 8, 2020 I had 2tb space for my personal Google Drive but recently got offered unlimited space on my business G suite account for cheaper so went with that. About 2 month ago I moved all my docs over and deleted all my files, then deleted all the files in the bin, but storage being used is now listed as 160gb. All of drive is empty, I have nowhere near that size in emails or photos. Any ideas how I can track down where this space is getting used.
bald_pig Posted January 8, 2020 Posted January 8, 2020 In the drive settings, does it show anything under storage -> view items taking up storage. You can also check "view storage details" as it may be gmail attachments
TwistedHelixis Posted January 8, 2020 Author Posted January 8, 2020 In the drive settings, does it show anything under storage -> view items taking up storage. Yes lots of files. When I click on a file it has 'restored' as the last action, prior to that it has 'deleted'. So are these in limbo land?
bald_pig Posted January 8, 2020 Posted January 8, 2020 My trashed files don't show at all, maybe they've been restored back from the trash?
TwistedHelixis Posted January 8, 2020 Author Posted January 8, 2020 My main drive folder is completely empty
mikeprice Posted January 8, 2020 Posted January 8, 2020 Has it somehoe done some sort of link up betweenthe 2 accounts and is still counting the old files as in both places? or maybe it thinks there is a Drive folder soemwhere that will be syncng soon?
bald_pig Posted January 8, 2020 Posted January 8, 2020 What location does it show when you click an item on the storage page? you should be able to click through to the folder as well.
TwistedHelixis Posted January 10, 2020 Author Posted January 10, 2020 What location does it show when you click an item on the storage page? you should be able to click through to the folder as well. It lists the old location, although its not actually there if I go in to My Drive. Some of the files say they are shared some do not. Things have got a bit odd. I tried to delete a file from the list of files in storage (personal Google), the file did not say it was shared, the file also got deleted from my business account. This is how I migrated from my personal to business On my home pc I detached Google backup and sync from my personal account, this leaves the Google folder with all the files in the local folder. I then logged in to backup and sync using my business account and pointed the sync folder to the old location and left it to sync the files. When it had finished I went into the online version of Drive for my old personal account and deleted all the files. I had a good TB of data and as far as I can tell everything is listed in my business account and not missing. What do I do, as I am stumped.
TwistedHelixis Posted January 10, 2020 Author Posted January 10, 2020 (edited) Unless anyone has any better options, this is my fix. Click on storage, because all the files are just in one big list and not in their correct folders I am clicking on one of the files, then on the file location (details box) I can then step back through the folders using the bred crumbs. When I have got as far back as I can I am clicking download. This then downloads all the files in all those folders I have just stepped back through. When it is downloaded I am then deleting the (stepped back) root folder, which will remove all those files from my personal Google drive. I can use the downloaded zip file to upload to my business account at a later date. This is going to be a long process and luckily the files are non Google file types as I suspect I would have even more issues. Fingers crossed that someone has a simpler solution. TwistedHelixis Posted January 10, 2020 Author Posted January 10, 2020 Sugar, thought I might have a way of getting round this issue, but the file is still listed in my personal account under 'Storage' even after deleting it and removing items from the bin.
TwistedHelixis Posted January 10, 2020 Author Posted January 10, 2020 Just took a while, but my test file has gone. I also went through in size order and deleted lots of old large iso files, so I am down to 60gb.
