steveritus Posted December 20, 2019 Posted December 20, 2019 In our primary, we currently have 2 physical servers. 1x 2008 DC AD DNS and File Storage, 1 x2012 SIMSHave bought a HP ProLiant ML110 Gen10 (64gb, 12 core, 240gb SDD, 1.2tb SAS, Server 2019)Plan on using VMs. Should I replicate what is in place or Split roles?2019 - DC2019 - DataConvert current 2012 SIMS physical to virtual
Norphy Posted December 21, 2019 Posted December 21, 2019 At the very least, I would separate out the DC/DHCP/DNS and file server roles as you suggest and create a new VM for SIMS, using either a P2V converter or redoing it from scratch. Just one thing, you will be putting all your eggs in one basket so make sure that your backups are good
XiJ Posted December 21, 2019 Posted December 21, 2019 We do have our schools run DC/DHCP/DNS/fileserver roles. And then a SIMS VM (until they move to a decent MIS). But yeah backups are critical.
