fredbayker Posted December 17, 2019 Posted December 17, 2019 Hi, I’m hoping some network gurus can point me in the right direction. How would I go about figuring out what is causing this, are their some logs I can view or diagnostics I can run? Any help is much appreciated.

FN-GM Posted December 18, 2019 Posted December 18, 2019 Check the firmware. Check you have no debugging running. It could also be a CDP / LLDP attack.

I’ve read it could be something to do with a loop somewhere. I was also wondering if it could be excess traffic from broadcasts/bonjour etc

Broadcast will be handled by the ASIC on each port not the CPU.

Hi, I have encountered switches racing when a switching loop is created e.g. a teacher thought an ethernet cable looked untidy to so plugged the unused end into another ethernet port :-) The network performance gradually went downhill. Should be able to see this through the switch portal in a browser. Does it max out straight away or progressively use it up over time... how long do you know??? I begin by unplug everything but the uplink on the switch, cycle the power, to see if the switch still max out. Watch logs as you plug each port back in Good luck

I’m going try that over half term although I’ll have to mark each port:patch point so I can put it back together!
dapaulio Posted January 19, 2020 Posted January 19, 2020 (edited) Yeah I would recommend doing patch to port diagram If it’s a double patch I would have expected spanning tree to take down the port or if you haven’t configure spanning tree it would take down your switch an md eventually your network. Do you have a trunk configured on the switch that may be shared by two devices. Or You are may have two devices plugged in to a shared ports. Commonly the last 2-4 ports are shared with sfp ports One more thing to consider if it is POE check your devices aren’t overloading the switch Your Aruba’s are spec to deliver 370W over the ports. If it is 48 ports that is 7.7w per port average. I have some unifi ac pro which Iv just googled. They draw 9w max. Therefore I can only have up to 41 on this switch Hope it goes well! Mr.Ben Posted January 20, 2020 Posted January 20, 2020 From the cli you can also use the loop protect feature. Once enabled, you'll see the offending port(s) being disabled.
