Hi,

I’m hoping some network gurus can point me in the right direction.

How would I go about figuring out what is causing this, are their some logs I can view or diagnostics I can run?

Any help is much appreciated.

The firmware is up to date, they’re fairly new switches purchased within the last year but I checked anyway.

I’ve read it could be something to do with a loop somewhere.

I was also wondering if it could be excess traffic from broadcasts/bonjour etc

Broadcast traffic shouldn't cause this. Broadcast will be handled by the ASIC on each port not the CPU.

I have encountered switches racing when a switching loop is created e.g. a teacher thought an ethernet cable looked untidy to so plugged the unused end into another ethernet port :-) The network performance gradually went downhill.

Thanks for the replies folks. Still haven’t gotten to the bottom of it, as chr1sM has said, I’ll be taking a walk around to see if I can spot anything plugged in

Check for port errors. Should be able to see this through the switch portal in a browser.

 

Does it max out straight away or progressively use it up over time... how long do you know???

I begin by unplug everything but the uplink on the switch, cycle the power, to see if the switch still max out.

Watch logs as you plug each port back in

Cheers bud, that’s a better idea than walking around lol! I’m going try that over half term although I’ll have to mark each port:patch point so I can put it back together!

Yeah I would recommend doing patch to port diagram

 

If it’s a double patch I would have expected spanning tree to take down the port or if you haven’t configure spanning tree it would take down your switch an md eventually your network.

 

Do you have a trunk configured on the switch that may be shared by two devices.

Or

You are may have two devices plugged in to a shared ports. Commonly the last 2-4 ports are shared with sfp ports

 

One more thing to consider if it is POE check your devices aren’t overloading the switch

Your Aruba’s are spec to deliver 370W over the ports. If it is 48 ports that is 7.7w per port average.

I have some unifi ac pro which Iv just googled. They draw 9w max. Therefore I can only have up to 41 on this switch
