Hi,

It has been a while since I was on here and probably one of the last questions I asked was about internet connections. We were in the past looking to move away from the council to our own connection but there were a number of factors stopping us from doing so.

We now do not have these issues and once again need to ask, who do you all use, are they value for money and what is the support like (if you have used them).

I have contacted 1 or 2 who either have not given me any info or not even got back to me.

Thanks in advance.

Depends on where you are really. Different operators might or might not have their kit locally. For leased lines we normally go for Virgin Media as they are pretty much the cheapest here (Oxfordshire). Once installed it just works - 0 downtime - never need support really.

Someone here recommended Zen Internet to me a while ago. Going to renew with them next year.

Free ADSL backup line. Instant support. Never gone down in 3 years. Good pricing too. Zero complaints.

It always baffles me that a Virgin reseller always quotes much less than Virgin themselves.

FYI... If you go direct with either Virgin or BT, your support is going to be bloody awful. Go with a decent reseller.

EDIT: I have spoken to Wave9 too and their Sophos cloud filtering and connection bundle looks very appealing.

Choosing the right filtering package is important as you'll be stuck with it for a looong time.

We're with BT here on a 1Gbps line with 500/500Mbps port speed. The actual server is good & reliable with no downtime since it was installed in 2017. However their support & actually getting hold of people is terrible.

For web filtering we do it on a Palo Alto virtual firewall.

Also think we're paying more than what resellers would quote. But my predecessor signed a 5 year contract, so we're stuck in 2022.

LGFL TrustNet for us - currently on a 200mbps line which is soon to be upgraded to 300mbps as part of their broadband upgrade pledge. Overkill for what we require but not going to turn down the free upgrade.

Can't complain one bit, really good value for us as we take advantage of pretty much all the added bundled services (Sophos, MalwareBytes, Adobe Suite etc...).

Filtering is handled through their webscreen platform, which used to be quite the source of annoyance in the past, but they've upgraded it quite a lot in the past year. Any support queries I have tend to get picked up very quickly.

Me too! Ours is a VM line via two different resellers and it's still cheaper than VM direct. Bonkers.
