Gongalong Posted December 4, 2019 Posted December 4, 2019 Hi folks, One of our SIMS admins has spotted a broken link in our SIMS Documentation install. If we go to "Documentation" (far right) from the home screen we get "Documentation Centre for Secondary Schools". There are some buttons below e.g. Manager, Finance & HR, but when clicked on they go to a simspublication.com link which is dead. Is something broken in our documentation, or does everyone else have this? Thanks
CAM Posted December 4, 2019 Posted December 4, 2019 I get this too and have long since given up. Most documentation I get from Google. 1
DrBeaker Posted December 4, 2019 Posted December 4, 2019 (edited) Just tested a few and ours is opening the documentation which is PDFs in IE. This is what I get .... Edited December 4, 2019 by DrBeaker 1
bobsmith Posted December 4, 2019 Posted December 4, 2019 ours are all working fine. edit: version 7.188 here 1
DrBeaker Posted December 4, 2019 Posted December 4, 2019 ours are all working fine. edit: version 7.188 here That means you've not gone to the Autumn release yet?
bobsmith Posted December 5, 2019 Posted December 5, 2019 correct - I like to let everyone else find the bugs before I get the upgrade out of the way. We'll have to do it over xmas. So is this something they've broken in 7.190 or are we still thinking it's a local issue for the OP?
Gongalong Posted December 5, 2019 Author Posted December 5, 2019 @mhaddock Do you have the link for "Exams & Assessment"? For us it's going here, which is a dead link http://simspublications.com/933281/exams-and-assessment.html Thanks!
Gongalong Posted December 5, 2019 Author Posted December 5, 2019 Or for anyone else, we're going to "Documentation" from the Home Page, then clicking on the "Exams & Assessment" link. Where's that going for everyone else?
Esteban_Child_of_the_Sun Posted December 5, 2019 Posted December 5, 2019 The link above is an old one. here is what we tell our schools. Within SOLUS3 under ‘Environment | Configure Workstations | sims.ini’ there is a link to a file which defines what lines are to be added to the C:\Windows\sims.ini file on each workstation. When SIMS is launched it reads the SIMSDirectory variable and configures the documentation button to point to %SIMSDirectory%\Documentation\index_main_eng_sec.html e.g. \\mis01\sims_share$\SIMS\Documentation\index_main_eng_sec.html As long as your server had the correct SIMSDirectory location during the last upgrade, and you workstations have an up to date sims.ini with the correct SIMSDirectory location defined and the user logged on to the machine has access to the unc path then they will be able to access the correct documentation. If the path was wrong on the server then correct it manually and also in SOLUS3 under 'Environment | Targets | Services' -> 'SIMS File Server' (The installation path should be local path to the UNC path the other machines use) 2
Gongalong Posted December 5, 2019 Author Posted December 5, 2019 The SIMS client is definitely going to the right place i.e. \\mis01\sims_share$\SIMS\Documentation\index_main_ eng_sec.html, but I think it's the documentation that isn't updating when SIMS is patched. For a long time we've got a WhatsNew.pdf for an old version. I'm not sure why the documentation isn't updating though - presumably a question for our county support?

Esteban_Child_of_the_Sun Posted December 6, 2019 Posted December 6, 2019 The SIMS client is definitely going to the right place i.e. As you have an old version it does sound like the last upgrade didn't work as intended, if you use SOLUS3 you may need to look at your setup/configuration which I'm sure your support provider can assist with 1
Gongalong Posted December 19, 2019 Author Posted December 19, 2019 After the Autumn update documentation was still broken, so support told us to run the "Extract" function in SOLUS3 to create an extracted installer. We then ran SIMSCentralServerSetup.exe and that fixed the documentation issue.
