Odd email flow rule processing

I have a VERY odd issue.

 

I am looking into an email issue for a member of staff at a school where I don't have access to the email tenancy. The member of staff is emailing another teacher at a different school where I do have access to the tenancy.

 

From here on out I will refer to them as X and Y at school X and Y respectively:

 

X emails Y from their email account and gets a bounceback message as follows:

Checking the tenancy at school Y shows that this mail flow rule only applies to pupils and prevents them from receiving external mail. This is done by matching the title of the user. If the user's title is "Pupil" then reply with the above custom message as below:

 

 

Checking Y's account on the tenancy shows that they have the title "School Administrator" so the above rule should not be applied.

 

I have checked all filtering options, all rules on Y's mailbox and I am still unable to work it out what is causing it.

 

The other oddity is that anyone else at school X is able to email Y without issue.

 

VERY confused by all of this and wondered if anyone had experienced anything similar

I pondered this for about 15 minutes yesterday and initially thought of some kind of forwarding or dodgy string matching, but don't think its that. If this is on O365, raise a support ticket as this is mulder-and-scully stuff.

I'm assuming you've checked the Job Title under the objectID as well as their own Title under the user properties? That rule would flag both up wouldn't it?

 

e.g.

 

Job Title = Pupil Support

Title = School Administrator

 

Would still hit the rule because it's just based on does it include it

Checked everything I could think of. Next step is to raise a ticket yeah.

 

The job title is School Administrator so that's not it plus if it was matching on that no one at all would be able to email her. Very confused by it.
