4K Interactive Panels and Classroom Computers

Hello, we are just started moving from projectors to Viewsonic Interactive Panels. They are 4K and it seems a shame to not use the 4K. So we either need a 4K capable computer in classrooms (££) and clone the screen as we do now, or any computer and extend the screen which may blow the minds of some staff. Then is a standard classroom computer with on-board graphics capable of running the 4K panel and its own monitor....

 

Anyone had any experience of this?

I wouldn't bother! Unless you're showing 4K videos, nobody will be able to tell the difference.

We have the 4K Viewsonic panels but we use them just in HD, 4K makes no difference when there watching a VHS tape that's been converted and uploaded to Youtube

Our viewsonic panels all have OPS PCs installed and are used standalone.

Not had any problems with 4k screen here, laptops cope fine

Not a major issue, they bring little to no benefit to a classroom going from HD to 4k so it's not worth the expenditure, however just about anything modern core i5 onwards with a good amount of ram should cope with extended/duplicate 4k screens.

OPS is an open standard, you can shop around for an OPS system from elsewhere, I know @VeryPC sell them, they may have a better price for you!

The Raspberry Pi 4 supports 4k output - I haven't tried one on a 4k monitor yet, so I'm not sure what performance might be like. It actually supports dual monitor output, although I'm guessing it would struggle to produce 4k on two monitors at the same time. At under £50, it should be affordable to get one and give it a try.

Currently, we have the S400 7^th generation OPS, which can run 4K at 60HZ. As all our units here at VeryPC the S400 is fully customisable.

It seems a shame to spend all the money on a 4K display and not put at least HD onto it..?

I think what we will do is either clone 1080P to both displays or have an extended desktop with the second display (the 4K panel) set to a 4K resolution. I am not sure if staff will cope with the extended desktop idea though.

The product page lists the IPF-7550 as having a certified OPS slot...

The internal PC is Intel unite certified and proprietary to ViewSonic.

The website wording I can see your point and have contacted our internal team to review....

So they are claiming they have a proprietary connection using an open standard?

 

Sorry, but they don't know what they are talking about. It's an OPS slot, it uses the OPS dimensions and the OPS standard connector.

 

There's a fair chance they say it just so you buy their pc instead of getting it cheaper elsewhere.
