iPads to Windows Surface Pros

With around 40+ teachers using older iPads (plus fixed Apple TV's in 50 locations) as an additional resource to their fixed desktop PC's I've now been asked to investigate whether Windows Surface Pro devices could be phased in as the iPads go end of life!

 

The reason the iPads are all older is of course a combination of them just not being used and budget constraints!

 

To me it sounds like the "proposer" is after a shiny new toy at the school's expense.

We went Surface Pros to save cost when needing to replace both teachers' classroom desktops and also their laptops (classrooms changed to docks with attached monitors, keyboards, and mice). Since then we've changed from Surface Pro's to HP 2-in-1 probook laptops (again to reduce costs, as significantly cheaper). The HP's still allow flipping keyboard over for tablet mode, and came with stylus pens to use on the screens, plus 14" screens. However most staff only used Surfaces/Pros as standard laptops, only a few teachers used those tablet features. Also the HP's have more scope to do repairs, whereas the Surfaces had a 3rd party warranty and were often being sent off and replaced with refurbished replacements when anything went wrong; when the 3-year 3rd party warranty finished we realised we couldn't stretch to using them in the 4th year due to the large amount of failures (bulging batteries, touch screen problems, etc). If you do go the Surface Pro route, would highly recommend Griffin cases, would almost say they are teacher proof when it comes to protection.
