chrisjako Posted November 14, 2019 Posted November 14, 2019 We a set to use onedrive for home areas and have been for 4 months, all SSO and onedrive sync works perfect with the exception of around 10% of workstations simply do not start onedrive on login (it takes around 30 seconds for it to normally start then redirect folders to the appropriate c drive location). Has anyone else experienced this? we tried upgrading to win 10 1903 plus latest version of onedrive 19.174.0902.0013 The way i am having to get around it is to manually go to the start menu and open the onedrive app, this loads up the correct onedrive experience as expected
DrCheese Posted November 14, 2019 Posted November 14, 2019 I take it you're using the machine level version of onedrive and not the (default) user level install one? That takes longer usually as it faffs around downloading an upgrade every single time someone logs on (I have no idea why MS designed it like this orginally!)
thimon Posted November 14, 2019 Posted November 14, 2019 Ensure you're using the command /allusers when installing OneDrive (I've got it as a computer startup script). I've also got it so C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft OneDrive\OneDrive.exe loads at user logon, forcing the OneDrive client to run and automatically sign the user in (if it's set via GPO).

I think we are using the one in C:\Users\USER\AppData\Local\Microsoft\OneDrive How can you tell which version is being used?
thimon Posted November 14, 2019 Posted November 14, 2019 How can you tell which version is being used? You use the same installer, just have to put /allusers in a cmd prompt or script. If you run OneDriveSetup.exe normally it installs to %appdata%, if you run the /allusers command it installs OneDrive to Program Files (x86)

I can't ever remember installing onedrive manually and its not in the x86 folder - so i take it I just run the OneDriveSetup.exe /allusers /silent on a batch file startup script?
thimon Posted November 14, 2019 Posted November 14, 2019 Yes. Sorry, I forgot about the /silent command.

Hi Thimon, How are you getting the local instance to start up? when i added the C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft OneDrive\OneDrive.exe to a user based logon script i get this error Also did you install onedrive as part of your image? i did the latest setup file up as computer based startup batch file with the /allusers /silent switch however it just seems to be re-installing the latest version with _1 in the local directory
thimon Posted November 14, 2019 Posted November 14, 2019 Hi @chrisjako As part of my computer logon script it looks for a registry key, if it’s not there it installs OneDrive for all users silently, creates the registry key then exits the script. Upon next computer startup it will again look for the registry key, see the registry key and exit the script. I’m sure there are much tidier ways of doing this but it works for me. The user logon process should run under the logged on users security context, running OneDrive as an admin causes that error. I set the program files OneDrive.exe to start under Group Policy > user > admin templates > system > logon > start these programs at logon, and enter the path of OneDrive.exe (when installed for all users). This is all from memory, I can double check and confirm for you tomorrow.
thimon Posted November 15, 2019 Posted November 15, 2019 Hi @chrisjako Please see the computer startup script that I use to install OneDrive for all users per machine, and the user GPO so that OneDrive starts on user logon.

Thanks, gpo set identical to your screen shot i changed the install script to IF EXIST "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft OneDrive\19.192.0926.0012\OneDriveSetup.exe" GOTO end \\baeda.local\netlogon\OneDrive\OneDriveSetup.exe /allusers /silent :end All seems ok so far with test users, think i am ready to roll it out - thanks for all your help bud I really do appreciate it! 1
thimon Posted November 15, 2019 Posted November 15, 2019 Awesome. Do bear in mind that the version number of OneDrive in Peogram Files (x86) will change with each update. I replace the OneDriveSetup.exe file used for the install when a new version comes out
