Exam coursework papers

We're now running some computer science courses and the Exam board have said the exam materials can not be copied by the students. I can't find a way to disallow students from copying without taking away their read permissions.

 

Does anyone else have a locked down environment for coursework material?

Some of our exam users can only logon at named stations and at nominated times (Active Directory restrictions) This along with a specific set of desktop shortcuts, as befits the requirements of the exam being sat, limits their options for straying. They are sometimes allowed pen and paper for calculations and sometimes the exam is part written, and part on a computer.

We have exam logins setup and they can only access them from specific computers. We have group policy which locks down quite a lot. This is coursework so they can access it at any time, even remotely from home if they wish. I just can't see a way of stopping them from copying it without removing the read access. I guess you could argue that they can easily take a photo of it on their phones if they really wanted to.

This reminds me of the Computing NEAs from a few years ago; explicit instructions that the materials had to be stored securely on the network, and no files could be added after the start of term.

 

Can anybody remember what happened with those? (hint)

 

I always chuckle to myself about these edicts handed from exam boards, that we then have to put into practice somehow. I think my favorite was one of the ICT Functional Skill exams, which required a fully functional email client, but without the ability to send or receive email.

 

And as far as I'm aware, no external body has ever asked to audit any of our IT practices for exams or controlled assessments. Not even to confirm that spellcheck is disabled on the accounts used for word processing!
