xicor Posted October 5, 2019 Posted October 5, 2019 Hi All here stuck at the school on a weekend trying to troubleshoot a synology connection, does anyone know how I can enable an LGFL connection to connect to a Synology NAS that's based off-site ? normal internet connects fine to it LGFL does not, I've gone through the incredibly painful process with LGFL and sending them IP's to whitelist but still no luck, this lack of control over the firewall is just frustrating, paying all this money and I can't even control the firewall, been asking for this for years just getting fed up now. anyway rant aside - anyone have any experience with synology on LGFL ? Thanks Xi
Xur Posted October 5, 2019 Posted October 5, 2019 I don't have any experience with Synology unfortunately but it's been possible to control you're own firewall for many years with LGfL. If you give them a call and ask about "Option 2" I'm sure they'll be able to send information on this over. Regarding troubleshooting, I would recommend running a packet capture and double checking the requests it's making. may be of interest as well. 1
xicor Posted October 5, 2019 Author Posted October 5, 2019 thanks for your reply, yes they do offer option 2 but then I'd have to purchase own firewall equipment which adds to an already very expensive connection for multiple schools, might as well go with Virgin at this rate and get own firewall I wish they make the process easier and simpler, first raise a ticket then fill an excel sheet then when someone has time in the infrastructure they will do it for you, then you pray the issues are resolved if not repeat the whole thing again
gh5000 Posted October 5, 2019 Posted October 5, 2019 Trust you've come across this? https://www.synology.com/en-global/knowledgebase/DSM/tutorial/Network/What_network_ports_are_used_by_Synology_services What are you trying to achieve? Remote access to the Synology? File access? Is the Synology that's off-site on a static IP? Is it a URL you are trying to access? Or a service over a port? I'm sure if you gave @PaddyNewman your ticket number he could help. Have you asked Atomwide for help with packet captures or are you just trying ports on the spreadsheet? 1
PaddyNewman Posted October 5, 2019 Posted October 5, 2019 Hi xicor. As above, send me a PM with the reference and I'll take a look for you, I can't today as it's Saturday and I'm actually in the US on holiday, but I return Monday morning. I can also pass on to my colleague to assist if it's urgent Monday morning etc Assuming this is you going out to a remote NAS?
PaddyNewman Posted October 10, 2019 Posted October 10, 2019 Hi @xicor I can see my colleague has updated the IPs for you. Is this working now? If not let me know and I'll look further for you. Thanks Paddy
