O365 - Hide Distribution Groups from Students

Hi

 

We have a number of distribution groups including class lists (from SIMS) in our GAL. All users using the same GAL. Management do not want students to be able to see class lists but would like staff to be able to still use them. If I hid them from the GAL that would affect staff; if I create a new address list and add class lists to that would that not still add them to the GAL for students to see?

 

I may well be answering my own question but do I need two GALs, one for staff and one for students? Would that mean staff can't see students and vice versa? How do I get around that conundrum?

Ive got a few address lists for our users.

 

Staff can see staff ALs and Student ALs include distribution lists

 

Students can only see staff email addresses.
