updating from El Capitan

Hi,

 

I've got an old mac mini server (late 2012) running OSX 10.11.16

 

I use it to manage ipads via Apple configurator 2 and also use

Server version 5.2 to use the caching service so it's pretty critical

to our infrastructure. It has a usb plugged in for time machine backups

 

I've been thinking about updating it to get access to the latest version of Apple configurator (needed for DEP)

but have very little knowledge re macs so I'm not sure what is the safest approach to take.

E..g how to go about updating and to which version and any associated risks (esp. how to recover

from a time machine backup if things go wrong).

Ok well the problem here is likely to be Server as the latest versions have removed caching and pushed it out to the clients (I think), assuming you can update to Mojave you should be OK going to the App Store and downloading the update.

 

Not sure I have updated our Mac mini Server yet and whether it is new enough to take an upgrade to Mojave, but the time is probably right to give it a go before they release Catalina later this month.
