Anyone else having issues restoring VM to server 2019 using Windows Backup?

Hi,

 

I have just moved one of my schools over to Server 2019 and have done my monthly restore test, which has failed.

 

The server I use to test the backups / restore too is also server 2019.

 

The backups are taken on the host, which backs up both virtual machines on the host to an iSCSI drive on another server, I then copy this backup to a USB drive and use the USB drive to do my test restores from.

 

Windows backup restore gets to 100% and then gives a message that the restore has failed.

 

I do have a workaround, if I mount the file on the USB drive and then copy the VM disks from the USB drive to my test restore server, I can then create a new virtual machine using the copied disks and the VM starts up as it should.

 

The odd thing is that the same restore server (2019) is able to restore our old backups which were taken from server 2012r2 just fine.

 

Anyone else having this issue?

Hi,

 

I had this problem before when using Server 2019 and make sure the latest updates are installed from Microsoft Update not from WSUS.

I resolved this issue by making sure the updates are all installed on the local server.

Thanks, I will make sure all updates have been applied directly from MS next week at some point. Good to know there might be an easy fix.
