Training for macs

Hi all,

My school is soon having about 60 macs installed in it by a third party.

This was all agreed months before I started.

I'm quite happy to be able to play with these bad boys but I am wondering what sort of things I might need to know once the installers have left and I am thenin charge of mac servers and imacs.

 

Can anyone suggest a training course or qualification that might prepare me for these?

Get in touch with your local Apple Solutions Experts as they will often run Mac training courses too.

 

There are a number to go for and I would openly recommend CertForums as a good place to find out more information. A few of us are members over there and a few of them are members over here.

Tony is right, Certforums is quite a good resource.

 

What you need on a personal level is to study the PDF manuals on the Apple support site for both server and client; and perhaps even get yourself a copy of some study guides (search "Support Essentials" on Amazon).

 

The entry level qualification you would study is called the "Apple Certified Support Professional" and if you search the Apple website you can get full details of what you would study and how to take the exam (should you want to). The server exam is normally taken after the ACSP and leads to your being an ACTC ("Apple Certified Technical Co-ordinator").

 

I'm not sure that you *need* those to be a capable Mac admin, but they are there if you want to do it "properly".

I have done the Apple 10.4 servers essentials and it was a excellent course. If i were to suggest any course it would be that but for 10.5

 

When doing the course you get given all the reading materials to help do the exam.
