Disable sound over HDMI

Starting to move classrooms over to HDMI cabling to projectors and as expected sound is now going over the HDMI rather than output to the speakers. It can be disabled manually but is there any ideas to disable it programmatically? GPO, registry etc. I suppose they will all have different names, so could be tricky..

Could take the audio from the projector to the speakers. I have mine routed back to the small amp where there's a switch to pick between hdmi audio and other audio.

We do what mavhc does too. I don’t think there is going to be an easy way to achieve disabling audio output via hdmi.

Don't need to disable it I suppose, if you can instead force the sound to default to the device you want

I've been doing what @mavhc does as well, I set the speakers at about 70% volume and let the projector remote change it up and down. I hide the speakers volume in the trunking. Reduces cabling and sounds cleaner. It does however mean that the projector has to be on for sound & the screen in extend or clone.

Another thought - leave the audio coming of the HDMI, use an HDMI audio de-embedder to extract the audio to go wherever you need it then set the projector volume to 0. Works if the projector's on or off.

I ended up using a freeware called nircmd to set speakers as the default

 

- setdefaultsounddevice speakers 1

- setdefaultsounddevice speakers 2

 

 

If we get panels they will run a different command (dictated by a computer group)

 

e.g.

- setdefaultsounddevice SmartPanel 1

- setdefaultsounddevice SmartPanel 2
