Brexit Business Continuity

Hi folks,

 

I'm sorry to mention the "B" word here, however I was wondering if any schools have began to think about a post-Brexit business continuity plan for their schools. Essentially, if we leave the EU with or without a deal, what might directly affect the day-to-day running of the school?

 

I'm going to start contacting my IT related suppliers and third party companies to see if they expect their services to be affected if/when we leave the EU. I'll report back anything that I find out.

 

I don't want this thread to descend into a political debate, I'm just interested to hear about what discussions are going on in your school about this.

Hopefully all schools have this on their radar. There are some common sense preparations like making sure you don’t run low on consumables prior to 31/10.

 

It’s the what-ifs that are harder to work round. It’s not hard to imagine a hard drive failure and the spares being stuck at a port somewhere. Beyond suppliers keeping higher stock levels themselves, I am not sure there is any reassurance suppliers can give people. Nobody knows what will happen.

I've done a few "what-if" exercises to plan for the worst-case scenarios, but nothing formal. I was planning to contact all suppliers and ask them about their readiness, but I might wait to see if the current parliamentary shenanigans look like they'll have an impact...

Our school is very close to a junction on the M20, a lot of our teachers come from all over Kent and would potentially have issues getting to work.

 

Since the vote the SLT have had discussions on it and are/have put a plan together.

 

In terms of 'stocking up' we havent done this as an IT department as we could waste money on things we dont need and the money could be spent elsewhere from our tiny budget.

Currently we have delays/jams due to the M20 works going on and the stupid Operation Brock!

 

So with Brexit possibly causing issues for traffic we are going to be stuck!
