Unifi and Smoothwall

Hi all

 

I'm not really sure where to post this or what to do.

 

I have setup an AP on our Unifi system to use WPA-Enterprise and for the time being, just to forward that to our Smoothwall box on it's own VLAN.

 

Smoothwall is setup to provide the radius services, DHCP and I've a separate Ubuntu box on the VLAN to provide DNS (and eventually it'll provide a web portal with some other links/services on it when I get around to it).

 

My wireless client can connect to the SSID and it receives an IP address. I can ping the Ubuntu box and can resolve DNS successfully. The smoothwall box can also ping the Ubuntu box. The Ubuntu box can ping both devices.

 

I can't however ping Smoothwall or get any web access from the client on the BYOD network. Smoothwall is also unable to ping the client.

 

Something somewhere is obviously going wrong, however I'm at a loss now as to where to look to try and work out what it might be. I can't see why it would be the VLAN as if it was neither device would be able to ping the Ubuntu box.

 

Anyone able to offer up any advice?

Sounds like you haven't added the network range and CIDR or "location for the VLAN of the AP to smoothwall to accept it?

Either that or you haven't enabled inter vlan routing on your core or L3 switch (which I would hope that smoothwall is plugged into!). Be aware that as soon as you enable routing, you will open up any corporate LAN access to guests/BYOD which isn't probably desirable. You might want to invest in some seperate VLAN's for Staff and Student devices for BYOD and some ACL's on your core/L3 switch.

I gave up with it in the end due to lack of time, all I could think was some strange issue with Radius but the wireless was authenticating correctly.
