Quatermass Posted September 3, 2019 Posted September 3, 2019 I'm probably being thicker than a whale omelette here but has anyone ever seen this error and got a fix?
BOOT Posted September 3, 2019 Posted September 3, 2019 ...Looks like the service isn't even running. 1
Quatermass Posted September 3, 2019 Author Posted September 3, 2019 Both Groupcall services are running...
Damon Posted September 3, 2019 Posted September 3, 2019 Have you called Groupcall? Probably worth going direct to them if there's any issues as they're a friendly bunch. 2
Quatermass Posted September 3, 2019 Author Posted September 3, 2019 Yup, still waiting. Got a call ref rather than an actual tech, unfortunately...
Damon Posted September 3, 2019 Posted September 3, 2019 Ah bummer! I've got Xporter in a few hundred schools and I don't recall having to do anything other than restart the service. Do you have anything else running on port 6000? Guide on doing that here: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/48198/how-can-you-find-out-which-process-is-listening-on-a-port-on-windows
Damon Posted September 3, 2019 Posted September 3, 2019 I can't recall the exact mechanics of Xporter but it might be that this is essentially the client log and there may be a service log within the installation directory. Might be worth searching to see if the service itself is reporting an error.
robyholmes Posted September 3, 2019 Posted September 3, 2019 I have the same issue as this and found Sophos had detected the service exe as Malware. We'd just moved to Sophos Online with Sophos X and so far I've not been able to restore it long term (Sophos seems to take over again despite me telling it not too). Do you have Sophos? 2
Quatermass Posted September 3, 2019 Author Posted September 3, 2019 Top marks sir! Yes, we have Sophos Central and looking back it has indeed helpfully flagged GCX_SvcApp.exe as a PUA. I've just whitelisted and restored it. So far, still getting the error though
MrMat Posted September 3, 2019 Posted September 3, 2019 Top marks sir! Yes, we have Sophos Central and looking back it has indeed helpfully flagged GCX_SvcApp.exe as a PUA. I've just whitelisted and restored it. So far, still getting the error though It needs a reinstall. Sophos kills it completely, it's very annoying! Head to C:\Program Files (x86)\Groupcall\Xporter\XporterUpdate or equivalent and run the GroupcallXporter_Setup.exe That's what I did last time anywho and it got me back up and running 3
Quatermass Posted September 3, 2019 Author Posted September 3, 2019 SORTED! Brilliant, thanks. As a Defender driver I should have known the answer was in Solihull... 1
robyholmes Posted September 3, 2019 Posted September 3, 2019 I'm still struggling with it. I'm getting a 'access denied' error on the exe when trying to run it. Can you screenshot your exception for me?
Quatermass Posted September 4, 2019 Author Posted September 4, 2019 In our Sophos Central we added GCX_SvcApp.exe as an exclusion here : Server Protection > Policies > server policy name > Settings > Exclusions 1
robyholmes Posted September 4, 2019 Posted September 4, 2019 In our Sophos Central we added GCX_SvcApp.exe as an exclusion here : Server Protection > Policies > server policy name > Settings > Exclusions Thanks, I've added it and we'll see what happens. In the meantime Sophos are investigating as I can't see its still blocking it but it isn't working either.
Quatermass Posted September 4, 2019 Author Posted September 4, 2019 I did also follow MrMat's suggestion and reinstall Xporter, because even when restored from Sophos it didn't work. That fixed it.
GREED Posted September 4, 2019 Posted September 4, 2019 Apologies late to the party here. Graham from Groupcall. Is/are your problems here solved people - if not and you still need our support team, PM me your details and will see about getting someone in touch. Regards Graham
jonnykewell1 Posted September 4, 2019 Posted September 4, 2019 This happened to us today and caused all sorts of headaches!
Chuckster Posted September 5, 2019 Posted September 5, 2019 It needs a reinstall. Sophos kills it completely, it's very annoying!
