Would you be able to provide a guide as to how yu went about dpeloying Logic Pro X. Music teacher is asking for the admin password so each student can download files but really do not want to go down that rabbit hole.

The only way I could see it being done was to have a master mac where the files are manually downloaded. Then script the files or a large package. I ended up giving the lecturer admin on the macs as I don't have the time to download samples. Also if any drivers get downloaded I'm assuming they need admin rights to install. It's a shame apple don't provide a command line tool to update the samples you could run as root.

Way i went about deploying Logic X sounds files was to have a caching server, set that up. Downloaded 1 Macs sound files over night and then the next day was able to do the whole suite in a couple of hours from the caching server.

The appleloops.py utility has been created to make it easier to download and deploy the audio content that accompanies GarageBand, Logic Pro X, and MainStage 3.

 

Each of these apps has a 'mandatory' set of packages that the user is prompted to download and install when the app is first run, followed by a prompt to download the remaining optional packages and install them.

 

In both cases, the user must provided credentials for an account that can install software, which is not always possible in managed Mac environments.

 

From time to time, Apple changes the set of packages that these apps require. For environments where pre-deployment of this content is required, it can be a challenge to keep updating the content in a repeatable manner.

 

appleloops.py aims to make this process easier to manage.
