All virtual machine restarting

Hey

 

I am experiencing issue with all my hyper v virtual machine every couple of hours they seem to be rebooting, I can see anything in the logs to suggest any issues going on.

 

Anyone come across anything like this before.

 

I am running window core 2016 with hyper v service running the vms all VMS are 2016

Yes, I've had similar. The UPS supplying the host was playing up. Also had it where the RAID card was dying (nothing logged for that either). Is the host itself stable?

I know in VMWare there is something, and sorry I am scrabbling for the technical name, that checks that applications are running OK and if they don't get a response they reboot the VM. The issue comes if the timeout is set too low. Does Hyper-V have anything like this?

 

EDIT: VM Monitoring I think, can be set to monitor the VM or an application.

"Heartbeat Monitoring" is what you're looking for I think - checks with the vmwaretools application on the guest

On the host that used to play up, I used a PS script that rebooted the VM if the hearbeat was lost. Possible it is doing that, though if you didn't set that up I'm not sure what else would do so.

We had something similar and are investigating

they have stopped rebooting now, has been stable for 24 hours, this only occurred after i applied loads of updates . what i did notice in the logs was kernel error for power @ 100% i also had the following just in the information

 

*The MAC address XX-XX-XX-XX-XX has moved from port

*The WMI Performance Adapter service entered the stopped state

i dont know if any of this is related but am thinking of moving all my Virutal machines to my backup server. I will also have look at ILo see if there is any hardware issues.
