I'm looking to replace some Non POE switches with POE versions so I can remove POE injectors and the need for additional power in some cabinets and to generally to tidy these cabinets.

These switches will have a combination of Unifi NanoHD Access Points, Fanvil IP Phones, Unifi CCTV Cameras and very soon, some Paxton Controllers (not sure how many controller per switch at this moment in time, but likely to be between 2 and 4)

Looking at Ubiquiti EdgeSwitches (so they are the same as my non POE switches) and have a choice of 250W, 500W and 750W

So, how do I work out power requirements? - is it simply a case of looking at each device to see what power they require and then adding up all the device power requirements?

Cheers

We have 40 phones, 20 APs and a few other POE bits plugged in to 13 Unifi switches on this site. Total wattage used is 109W at the moment. Most I've seen is around 200W.

So, in my experience, you probably won't need much more than the 250W editions.

I have found CCTV cameras (in particular outdoor cameras) can drain the power in a POE switch. We have a 350W switch maxed out here.

Seems they only do 48 Port switches in 500W or 750W - or at least that is all I can see on MSDist and 4Gon.

And I totally forgot about the new external CCTV Cameras being added - need to check make/models, so 500W should be adequate I think.

Just a note. Our external PTZ cameras have a local power supply, so not all external cameras need PoE - your's might though.
