Disease Posted July 26, 2019 Posted July 26, 2019 I have a small problem with one suite of older machines on my Windows 10 roll out. Machines clone fine but on boot it does not pick up the USB Keyboard and mouse so you can not interact with the machines at all, they have no PS/2 so stuffed at the moment. I have updated the bios (last update available was 2010ish), of course Asus show no drivers for windows 10 for the board, but man it's usb surely that should be a given to work. Any one come across this?

Steve21 Posted July 26, 2019 Posted July 26, 2019 When things like that happened before, it seems it's either a USB3 port that the driver isn't included for, and Windows isn't set to pull updates from online, but I guess if you've tried moving the ports it's affecting them all? Assuming you got a way to manually make it work (from your bios updating comment), can you get the product ID of the USB? (Like within device manager) There's often third party drivers that would work for them. Or manually set it to look for drivers on Windows Update just for one machine and see if it can pull one? Steve21 Posted July 26, 2019 Posted July 26, 2019 If it stops when it's in Windows only, either going to be the driver issue, bios settings if you got legacy usb set etc, or a duff update normally. KB4074588 broke USB devices last year, but I assume you have a newer build being deployed? (Think it was fixed in KB4090913) Can you get into recovery mode with USB working? Just thinking in terms of updating drivers etc Steve 1

Can you get into recovery mode ok though? If you can open command prompt in recovery (not safemode), you can install/uninstall the USB drivers via cmd and then it should try to reinstall them on restart etc Steve 1
ComboSmith Posted July 26, 2019 Posted July 26, 2019 It definitely sounds like drivers, had this on a few older machines. Best bet is to remote on to the machine with MSTSC or Impero and then find and install the drivers. Once you have the correct drivers you should be able to add them to the deployment so they are installed automatically.

Managed to eventually remote in ( remote desktop was not set) using PDQ Inventory, every USB item in device manager had an exclamation mark, removed them, scan for hardware changed they all came back up as working apart from one as unknown. Click on the unknown and then update driver bam! picked it up and keyboard and mouse working straight away. Now to find a way to automate it for those machines to save me remoeting into about 50 Thanks for the help guys.
