Televic & Windows Firewall

The televic lab requires any firewall set at the PC level to either be disabled or have the following ports opened for communication between Teacher PC and Student PC.

 

Screen Transfer 16777-20000 TCP

Audio Transmission 16777-65535 UDP

Video Transmission 16777-65525 UDP

 

 

Can anybody tell me how I do a range of ports on a client (Windows XP Pro SP2) firewall

Personally, I've disabled the windows firewall altogether through group policy.

 

Its just been a hinderance, and the networks protected at a variety of points anyway.

I would recommend disabling the Windows Firewall too. Chances are you'll have a decent router and proxy which should be enough to protect your network.

 

If you do want to enable applications (specific .exe's) follow this example:

 

%Program files%\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe:*:enabled:Internet Explorer

 

If you want to enable ports, follow this example:

 

80:TCP:*:enabled:Internet Explorer

 

I don't think it's possible to enable or disable a range of ports. You'd be better off specifying specific .exe's.

To enable either of these examples navigate to:

 

Admin Templates > Network > Network Connections > Windows Firewall > Domain Profile

 

Windows Firewall: Define program exceptions - Enabled.

 

To disable Windows Firewall completely, navigate to:

 

Admin Templates > Network > Network Connections > Windows Firewall > Domain Profile

 

Windows Firewall: Protect all network connections - Disabled.
