Internet Explorer Icon Disappeared

Hi,

 

i have just re-installed one of my PC's to get ready for a new image... finished it off, then logged on as a student to test it... The IE7 icon on the desktop has dissapeared... logged onto another one with the old image and its still there...

 

its deployed via a single profile for all the students...

 

i read it could be to do with an update for IE7 (as this is as uptodate as i can get it...)

 

any ideas?

I wouldn't worry too much about it. You can use IE GPOs to place IE on the desktop or alternatively create a shortcut and place on the desktop using Folder Redirection.

Have you applied SP3 to the new image, or a recent IE7 hotfix? Apparently this nobbles the icon...

yes... i thought thats what had done it...

 

any ideas where the bit in GPO says about putting the icon on the desktop? i can't find it!

You'll have to do it by redirecting the desktop to a location on the server and putting the icon in there.

You can do it that way Domino, but even easier:

 

User Config > Admin Templates > Desktop

 

Hide Internet Explorer icon on desktop - Disabled
