Surely you have another DC that will take over requests if you turn off this DC?

Shut down the DC and under settings of the VM you will be able to edit the VHD to give it a bigger volume so you can ecpand the partition when you boot the VM into windows via disk manager.

Not at the moment. We had a second DC but it was only in load balancing mode and didn't replicate over the data. Long story but the das they purchased doesn't support high availability. Planning to replace this at Christmas and implement high availability.

That makes literally no sense whatsoever.

Why dont you fire up a new VM and have it as a second DC, DNS and failover DHCP? Then youll be able down the DC with no space, quickly give it more and power it back up.

Same as last couple of posts. We only have one DC in each primary and I have done this a few times without issue. I have also shrunk a drive, which is a little more complicated, as someone had set the DC up with +1TB on the DC's C drive.
