Kite Flying

As some of you may have read in the cool things thread, I often take myself off to Dunstable Downs (or the local park or the beach) with a kite or two and spend an enjoyable hour or so kite flying. I find it a great way to relax and to unwind after a week here in school. For those of you that have children/grandchildren it's also a great way of dragging them away from the screen and introducing them to fresh air. Some kites can be quite challenging, especially the dual line kites ... parachute or stunt type.

 

Anyway, the point of this inane drivel is that Aldi are selling a selection of kites as part of their "Special Buys" from Sunday (14th). I bought some last year and they have been brilliant (I'll probably go and get a couple more this time round too). If you look in the local toy shop or online, most decent ones are going for £15/20. The Aldi ones are (or were) £3.99 or £4.99 !! They are very good quality and will get you or your kids flying in no time.

 

(I'm hoping to pick up a traditional box kite, if not I'll have to bite the bullet and get one from Amazon).

When I used too fly kites, I always thought that going to a shop to buy one was cheating.

 

My mother used to make dresses and when she making a pure silk wedding dress, I kept all of the offcuts - best kite ever.

I've found the parafoils suit a beginner [emoji57].

 

If that one on Aldi works is a proper bargain - mine was about £65!

 

120cm sounds quite large - in a decent wind I reckon it might pull a child off their feet!

I have a 3M and 5M Power kite (duel line), with the right wind the little 3M has me lifting off the ground. But i have to admite they are great fun! but can be dangerous without paying full attention to it!

It does work, I have one and it's great fun. As an intro to kite flying, they are all spot on.

I keep meaning to dig mine out, I have the same mix as you but having moved away from the coast don't have as much space. Worth a go though I reckon.

I live an hour or so from the coast, but usually take mine to a field to have a play! I keep looking at getting a buggy for it, just haven't quite myself to do it yet!
