Pupils suspended over online game

Dozens of pupils at a North East Lincolnshire school have been suspended after downloading a game from an internet site.

In all, 74 pupils at Tollbar Business and Enterprise College at Waltham, near Grimsby, were suspended for what the school said was a breach of IT policy.

Principal David Hampson said there were some 1,000 computers at the college and they were provided for educational use.

"Computers here are used for learning ... not for playing games," he said.

One of our members I wonder?

I spose it all depends on the content of the actual game, I remember back at my secondary school someone bought an emulator in on a disk and they got royally shafted for it.

75 people though, it does seem a bit unreasonable.

Computers are multitasking devices. So they are there for games too. We have games on all our PC's and run Games Clubs during dinner to give them somthing to do.

Overkill is not the word, those people need the sack, they are so out of touch its unreal!

I'd say it really depends on what the game was and where it was downloaded from.

If they were playing flash games in a lesson they should get a verbal slap from the teacher like they would for wasting time in a non-ICT using lesson.

If however they downloaded a pirated copy of a game from a shady website and therefore have infringed on copyright (and by proxy caused the school to also) then I'd be more likely to agree with the punishment.

There really isn't enough info in that short article to come to an informed opinion.

I think if 74 of them were playing the game then it was a bit late to be banning them.

I was thinking that... I mean, did nobody notice?!!

Maybe it was tribes. That's free to download now and you can run 64 player servers. :)

Do you have a link to this game. Might add it to the games available to the kids.

I might do that here as well.

Deathmatch with Y8 over lunch. If certain kids turned up I'm sure I'd get some staff interested too, if you get my meaning :D
