Hi everyone,

I know a fair few people are probably using the Smoothwall VPN Service and Software provided by Smoothwall. Is there anyway to push out configurations for all users on certain devices, ideally I want to set the VPN up for multiple users, but I don't want the user to have to do anything config related for obvious reasons. Is there a default folder that you can use to import all your connection details and certificates etc?

Other than that it all works hunky dorey.

TIA

Hi lbradley

We haven't created any process for that but I can see it would be useful. The setup process itself is relatively painless on the client side but does require a few steps. Any configuration changes (part from changing SW certificate) can actually be edited into the existing config with no need to a re-import or re-install.

Hi bud,

It's not that that's the issue, obviously for privacy we don't request users passwords, but I believe if I set up the connection as one user, the settings do not transfer to all users. So even though we have the connection ovpn file saved and easily accessible, it would mean the user having to re import that ovpn file when logged on as themselves, as settings from one user do not carry over to every user.

Hope that makes sense.

If there was a folder locally where you could automatically import these settings/files, it would negate having to use a how to guide and take out the middle man and having to rely on my users (who aren't that tech savvy) to set up there VPN connections.

Thanks for the reply.

That does make a lot of sense. Generally the OpenVPN deployment is limited to maybe 10s of users so automation like you describe hasn't been a priority. I'll dig a bit and see if I can find out if the OpenVPN application we license as any such features.
