Unifi, just want to double check IP address currently used is OK

Hi, Just taken over a new primary school and they are using Unifi AP. No handover docs for this school so decided to have a look at the WiFi settings.

 

In UniFi under settings > network > edit lan the IP listed under Gateway / subnet is a home IP 192.168.1.1 The school network is 10.Xxxx but obviously having the 192.xxx range is not causing any issues as all the laptops and iPads are running OK, but wanted to check if this is correct setup.

 

I also notice it has DHCP enabled using the 192.168.2 range.

When you say Unifi, what kit is installed? Certain features are only used by the USG gateway kit.

The UniFi WiFi AP (looks like a flying saucer) says UniFi AP

The unifi kit likes to have it's own 192.168 IP range that the switches and APs etc use to communicate with each other. You'll probably find the 192.168 addresses are just used for the gateway, switches, and APs.

 

It sounds likely that you have VLANS set up to allow your 10.Xxxx network (and any others) to function.

Don't think they have any V lan, its a very small primary, only 4 teachers and a few other staff, the switches in the comms cabinet are all cheap as chips and I cant find anything that might suggest they have a v lan

Yeah, if you don't have a USG, that IP won't actually be used at all. DHCP server is also a USG only feature.

 

So basically, the "LAN" setting and DHCP server settings just don't do anything for a basic Unifi AP install.
