I have been looking at scdpm for our school and i am keen to implement this as it looks like great tool to making managing stuff better.

 

1 whats your thoughts one this

2 how has this helped you manage better

 

3 does anyone in the northwest area ( Liverpool/Wirral/Chester ) have this installed and running i could made come across and see this in action and have demo. ?

Hi

We use DPM and have been for years - just in the process of moving to DPM 2019.

 

We have an onsite box with 72tb and then an offsite box with 96tb at another institution as part of a reciprocal offsite backup.

 

IPSec vpn tunnel between both sites. Works an absolute dream and was part of a JISC & Microsoft Case Study

I have it with Firestreamer for HD backups and azure for DB backups. Probably had it for 10 years and very happy...and its cheap.

It's cheap on the Schools Microsoft licencing which is why we use it and have done for many years now. When it works it's great, when it doesnt it can be a PITA.

 

We've recently upgraded to DPM 2019 and now can only access the console on the server itself as when you install the remote admin console on another PC it says that our DPM server doesnt have DPM on it which it clearly does as it's backing up loads of servers! Also since the upgrade the report scheduling wont configure so we will now have to run the reports manually whereas previously we go the Tape Management report sent weekly.

 

It's saved our bacon a couple of times when we've had to restore servers (both bare metal recovery on a physical server and on a VM) - we perform regular test restores anyway just to prove to ourselves it's working!
