Dropbox yes/no?

As more & more educational sites seem to use this service I had to allow it for staff, but the statement from Drop box is a cop out

"How Dropbox handles viruses and malicious software

Dropbox syncs any files added to it. If someone adds files with a virus or malicious software, that file syncs to any computers linked to the account. If the virus or malicious software is in a shared folder, shared folder members and computers may also be affected.

Malicious software files are generally not activated unless you open them. For this reason, just as with files from any other source, we recommend that you follow good security practices, including:

• Running anti-virus software

• Exercising due caution when running unknown files from other computers

If your files have been corrupted by malicious software (such as ransomware), you may be able to restore the files to the state they were in before the malicious software took effect"

 

It would only take some low level hacker ( child in it class / script kiddie) to breach one of these poorly written sites to upload a nasty & you are screwed.

What do other schools do?

SLT are useless at making decisions, more chance of Brexit happening.

Just a heads up Any reason you guys are not using office 365/one drive or Google /Google drive? What's the reason for Dropbox?

No. Zero reason to allow access to an uncontrolled resource when you surely have better options.

Its "teaching resoures web sites ie Justmaths Online. the sites are koser enough, bt all the likns for downloads are file hosted on a dropbox account.

We get asked this all the time. Seems whenever teachers do a course the resources are put on Dropbox for them to download. We allow it temporarily for the download or we download the resources for the teacher.
