something todo with all the old SSDs!

We are now in a position where were disposing of laptops that have old 64GB SSDs. (Windows 8.1 eats it up)

 

I thought I'd raid 6 drives up in an old gaming PC to see what they could do and I was quite surprised at the half a MVME style performance. (a 335GB drive) This is on a Pentium Anniversary Edition using a Z97 board, using the firmware raid Intel style.

 

 

speeeed, each drive alone is good for 240MB ish, so this is almost perfect scaling!

 

The PC is peppy as anything I almost want to keep it. Skyrim flashes the loading screen as I reload a level, thats speed.

I did similar with 240gb drives for my steam library, I have no mechanical storage in my pc whatsoever

I have 2 x nvme in my home PC = 0 cables

Thought about this but reliability would be a question for me. With 1TB NVME ssd's around £100 currently though, I snapped one up (Intel 660p) which does me nicely!

my old LSI hba can only do 2TB drives max, grr. So eventually it's going to have 8 ssds on it, once I fill up the 24 drive bays with hdds. Raid Z2 them probably.
