NickoTheSicko Posted May 21, 2019 Posted May 21, 2019 Hello All, Apologies if this has been brought up in a different thread but i have recently updated a laptop within the school i work at and since updating it to 1809 i am unable to change the brightness, there is no options at all anywhere to increase the brightness. I know there is an issue with updating to 1809 which can affect the brightness but didn't know whether anyone had any solutions that have worked for them. I have unistalled the display adapter which worked but only for about 5 mins then it would go back dark again. I just dont want to re-build the whole laptop again. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Luke
Arthur Posted May 21, 2019 Posted May 21, 2019 Do you use Impero? https://www.edugeek.net/showthread.php?p=1763108 1
NickoTheSicko Posted May 21, 2019 Author Posted May 21, 2019 Do you use Impero? https://www.edugeek.net/showthread.php?p=1763108 Yes we do! I will try this thank you!
NickoTheSicko Posted May 21, 2019 Author Posted May 21, 2019 Do you use Impero? https://www.edugeek.net/showthread.php?p=1763108 This has not worked, still has issue with brightness.
Another Posted May 21, 2019 Posted May 21, 2019 I had an old Dell that did this. I disabled the light/ambient sensor within BIOS in the end. Not ideal but after upgrading to a version of Win10 it became impossibly dark!
strawberry Posted May 21, 2019 Posted May 21, 2019 We've had this issue on machines where you can override the brightness in the bios.

mdrabble Posted May 21, 2019 Posted May 21, 2019 Similar issue with some HP laptops - had to install the software to enable the function keys.
strawberry Posted May 21, 2019 Posted May 21, 2019 How do you change it in the bios? is it simple enough? Yeah, Can't remember the setting but it was fairly obvious. It was a sliding scale for on mains and on batt. 1

rosslaing Posted May 21, 2019 Posted May 21, 2019 (edited) Similar issue with some HP laptops - had to install the software to enable the function keys. If it is an HP its definitely this, just had this problem in the last month. Extra software to enable the display function keys. You can go into Settings->Display and brightness settings should be the first thing you see, (on 1803 anyway), if you have access and do it that way but depends how far you have Settings locked down. Yer the laptop is an HP ProBook 4540's, I will have a look at the software. Edited May 22, 2019 by NickoTheSicko
