Content Filter - Advice

We currently use a combination of RM Safety Net and EXA Surf Protect at a number of schools. A change to line provision means that we will need to look at alternatives for content filtering. We use Lightspeed at one school and like the product. However, Lightspeed seem to be withdrawing their hardware solution and pushing their new Relay system.

 

Has anyone used Relay and feedback would be helpful. I appreciate their are alternatives and feedback on those would also be helpful. This is for Primary Schools.

There's plenty of historical discussion on here ref filtering if you use the search box - probably a post every week or so!

 

We offer a good solution (I think) based on Sophos XG. I'll leave it for actual users to comment further and provide advice, but if you'd like more information and some pricing I'd be happy to help.

For content filtering, Smoothwall is one of the leaders. There are a lot of interesting options and new products available so in my biased opinion, do take a look.

RM SafetyNet is now available to anyone, regardless of who provides the line, just in case you weren't aware of that.

+1 for Smoothwall. Been using it for content filtering for years and moved to a full UTM last year. Very happy with the end result.

I wasn't aware of the RM stand alone. I do know that EXA offer it and it is something we are considering as the pricing structure is very good.

When you say that do you mean EXA offer RM SafetyNet at a good price? It may be worth checking if RM do it cheaper, I'm not sure how EXA would be able to give you a cheaper price than straight from the source but I'm happy to be wrong

Note that to my knowledge, Securly is not a content filtering system - they rely on a database of known websites rather than analysing the content in real time.

Hi Steve, Securly do look at content in real time - including searches, social media posts, YouTube videos etc... Not just DNS filtering.
