Do you need a Power BI Pro license to publish and share dashboards like this?

public publishing is free afaik. It's when you want to restrict it that you have to pay.

sorry - busy day today - I hadn't even looked past tab 1

 

so anyway, tab 1 - only filter selected is "2018" - SIMS market share is 78.91% which is obscene but believable.

 

Let's then pick 2017 as well - the number of schools looks sensible- 17101 in 2018 and 17632 in 2017 - but the percentages aren't doing anything clever - so we've got 38.91 for 2018 and 40.12 for 2017 - this is wrong.

 

Even more fun is that if we pick just one year and one MIS then that MIS get's 100% of marketshare. If we pick a second MIS they just split the 100% between them.

 

At each point the numbers look fine, it's just that your percentage calculations aren't being at all clever.

 

While writing this I had a play with tab 2 and that seems to be a lot more sensible - the percentages look to my untrained eye as if they are behaving when combining filters.

I'll take a look one evening this week, but the filtering is done based on the raw stats available - so those values are correct because 17000 odd of 22,000 school is around the 80% mark, but 17,000 of 44,000 is around 40%. It is not correct based on what is trying to be displayed, but it is right based on the values and the filtering taking place. The tables are not perfect I know that but the best way to display the key headlines we all want to see for 1 year - multi-year not so much, that is what the chart is for, or look on tab 6 for the year by year numbers. The tables are 'live filtering' they are not hiding and showing rows.

 

Of course, appreciate the feedback and will look into what I can improve.

Thanks for creating this Graham, it makes interesting reading. FYI you can set slicers to be single select if you wanted to limit it to one year at a time.

I'm reconsidering it I wanted to leave as flexible as possible but if it is not making sense then will look at it again. Once again thanks for the feedback all, I want it to be right and useful!

It comes from many csvs supplied by the DfE via FoI. I then pump those into SQL using SSIS, much easier to work with then.
