Patrick Posted June 17, 2019 Posted June 17, 2019 This is strange. All i did was deploy the GPO's and MSI and then the login page started acting up! But adding /start/ did work...

SimpleSi Posted June 18, 2019 Posted June 18, 2019 Our re-scheduled changeover happened last night and all seems to be working OK One minor issue is that I don't seem to be able to use the name of a device in the client manager to tell it is a staff device and to use Staff filtering instead of Student one If I use IP address - it works fine but that means having to set reserved IP for all staff devices (Not a biggy since VERY small school - no domain - but docs say I should be able to use the device name and name has higher priority than address range) Anyone managing to use name in small school?

Joanne Posted June 24, 2019 Author Posted June 24, 2019 Our changeover is tonight. I ended up knocking all of our ipads off the wifi last week when deploying the PAC file as per their instructions because I failed to add in the Network Security key on the wifi settings!! D'oh.

Should devices with NO configuration (just wifi password) be filtered by IP and be allowed to browse the web? I've had two schools migrated, one schools iPads and standalone PC's would not work. I needed to install the certificate onto the PC's as i was getting unsecure website errors. The other school has been migrated and the iPads and standalone PC's are browsing the web fine with no errors. Albeit, filtered as students.
Joanne Posted June 24, 2019 Author Posted June 24, 2019 (edited) I thought that the way it worked was if it detected a school IP then you would get pupil filtering? Might need to check the netsweeper settings... I'll take a look now. Looking at stuff on the netsweeper console now.... staff logins are getting agent deny, but all the pupil ones are fine.,.. hmmmm Double edit... just a few staff members... they probably need a reboot. Joanne Posted June 25, 2019 Author Posted June 25, 2019 OK, mostly online.... iPads are being weird though. Got a pupil iPad here working as expected. Got a staff iPad with no access, despite having the correct certificate and PAC file. So confusing.
Joanne Posted June 25, 2019 Author Posted June 25, 2019 Also... no idea what I'm supposed to do about guest access. I have a standalone laptop for our Office Manager to do coursework on at home. She has brought it in to work on it in school and it keeps throwing certificate errors at me, despite installing the certificate.... I won't be able to install certificates on all guest computers... eg/ our social workers laptop which is under county management and severely locked down.... Any suggestions?

I'd rather not have to manually configure any PC that comes into school. Feels like the days of having to key the proxy into visitors laptops again.

Joanne Posted June 25, 2019 Author Posted June 25, 2019 (edited) BTLS answer to guest laptops is set them up on a guest network and a seperate IP range.... so I'm playing along and I'm gonna set up a wifi network now and get it to dish out our unused admin range... LET'S SEE! Can't get my old school Ruckus Controller to dish out IP range on a seperate SSID.... thought that would be a thing.... I'm not gonna start VLAN'ing.... nopes. Patrick Posted June 25, 2019 Posted June 25, 2019 I suppose i'll have to look into how Unifi Guest network works then. I'd wish i could have just stayed on Lightspeed! To us techs, the change was completely unnecessary.
