Unifi In-Wall AP

Has anyone used an In-wall Unifi AP?

 

I want to try and put an AP in an existing room but running a new cable up the wall is going to be an absolute nightmare. There is a single port in a suitable location so thought about installing an In-wall AP and then continuing to use the output from the AP. Anyone any experience of using these and do they fit ok with standard back boxes/face plates?

How many users you expecting to come off of it? They aren't that powerful compared to the rest of the line up, as you can guess from the price!

 

They are mainly designed for Hotels etc where they will only have a few devices hanging off them in close proximity.

 

If you're plan is a classroom i don't think it will be powerful enough. You could stick a normal AP on the wall instead of the ceiling?

Fit fine with a standard double back box. Their range is about 10/15m max, I've got a couple in dado-trunking in sixth form common areas and they are fine for our BYOD areas, but as our metallic friend said above, not sure they would cope with 32 laptops in a class environment.

 

That saying, nice unit and are managed from the standard Unifi console just like the other AP's

It's the cabling that's a problem. It runs under a corridor into a cupboard and then from that cupboard under the floor again to the front of the classroom to a single network point at the front desk.

 

There isn't an easy way for me to get the cable out of the cupboard which would mean the AP would either have to go in the cupboard or sit on the teachers desk at the front.

 

Wasn't me who cabled it that way...

 

Will give it some more thought, I wouldn't expect a mass of users to be using it but then who knows what might change.
