I am starting to think about migrating Sims & FMS from SQL 2012 to SQL 2016.

I just started to read the migration docs our LA have sent me and at the start it says

Customers on SQL Server 2012 will be supported up to and including the SIMS 2018 Autumn Release.

I am not even sure what they are refereeing to as I thought SQL 2012 was supported for another year or so. Do they mean the migration tool?

Should I be worried?

Ask your LA as your support contract is with them

SIMS is now supported by Capita until 2022, it was changed from Summer this year

Your LA may be changing the SQL versions that it supports or it may be a doc that needs updating

That said, migrating SQL versions isn't as scary as it may first look. Spin up another VM, install SQL 20, try the migration, go from there. If it all goes wrong, you can just keep the old server running.

Do you know something about Capita that we don't.....?

Ha, it was supposed to say SIMS on SQL 2012 is supported...
