Merging O365 tenants

Ok, bit of a long story...

 

Back in the day our LEA pushed a Learning Platform and with it came email (originally some sort of online exchange based thing).

 

Later on it changed to an O365 offering (still attached to and authenticated through the company that runs the Learning Platform).

 

This has caused me more than a few headaches with services like MVLCS that I signed up to with the original email address believing that now I have 2 accounts; one 'work' and one 'Microsoft (read personal)' that have the same email address (the 'work' one not actually being tied to MVLSC which means some options are not available to me)...

 

We now have the option to have the O365 offering on its own and take over the tenant.

 

I have also created a tenant on my own for the school using a sch.uk domain (to get Word on an iPad - another long story). Does anyone know of a way I can clear this mess up? Maybe at least combine the two O365 tenants, but still keep all the original email adresses and data intact?

Short Answer - no.

 

Longer Answer. A login domain cannot be shared across two tennants (@yourschool.sch.uk)

 

You should seek to collapse into one. If your sch.uk one isn't used for much, you can simply unregister the domain (yourschool.sch.uk) wait 'a bit' (24-48 hours maybe - will cause an outage) then the domain will be register-able aginst the ex learning platform O365,then you need to recreate accounts, passwords etc. Though also take care that you're not losing any licensing. If you have to migrate content, (email, sharepoint etc) you need third party tools. There are other options, all suck.

 

 

Additionally, a Microsoft and Azure AD account (work or school account) are distinct and other than pain of knowing which is which there's no harm there.

You only need to wait 5 minutes once the domain is removed from one tenant to add to another.
