Dell Precision T5600 power issue

Hello All,

 

Currently, we just brought a dell precision t5600 from ICT Direct and it is having a strange issue which is if you leave it for an hour doing windows updates, it goes to sleep and when you try and wake it up it won't turn back on no matter how many times you spam the keyboard and mouse. The only way to turn it back on is by turning it off and on with the power button. We have done a bios update, we have reset the bios, we have reinstalled windows to a fresh version, we have checked it power management plan is set to balance, we have also changed a few of its drivers. Nothing has seemed to work.

 

Any suggestions on what to do? Any help would be highly appreciated.

I've suggested Shannon come on here. This has got me beat!

 

I'm 99% certain it's not a hardware problem (I may be wrong), I seem to remember this being an issue with the older T5500 as well, but for the life of me I can't remember the fix!

Having power plan set to balance will make things worse, as that will have it turn off after so long. Set it to performance or turn it off entirely whilst you're updating it.

Similarly check in the BIOS to ensure that wake on s3 or whatever Dell call it is enabled otherwise there will be no data transfer to/from USB devices to allow them to wake the machine.

Try and disable S3 sleep in the power management settings of the bios, also check to see if there's a wake from USB option, some Dell BIOS has that option too.

 

Have you tried just tapping the power button to see if it wakes?
