DalekSec Posted February 18, 2019 Posted February 18, 2019 Hi All, In our music building we have a suite of macs and a studio mac. All were setup the same. But for some reason when a student (only a student) logs into the studio mac they can't access their home area, it pops up asking for a username and password and once entered it appears blank. Compared to the suite PCs which is simply, click on the userarea and it pops up with all the correct content. I've checked the network config between them and they all seem the same... The one big diffrence is that the studio mac's main NIC is used for the music rack (not a network rack, a musical thingy magicy rack) and gets an IP from there also. I've setup the mac so the main NIC is our network (connected via ethernet to tb3 adaptor) and the music rack underneath. I've tried plugged in our main network into the main NIC and unplugging the music rack but the same problem still occurs... Am i missing something obvious?

What happens if you disconnect the mixing desk and give the studio Mac no option but to use your network.

Ah sorry, the Mac suite works fine, they click on the userarea it pops up without asking for username and password. I've tried unplugging the desk and just having our network in the main NIC and still doesn't work, i've even removed and re-added it to the domain! Also i compared the network settings to one of the macs that does work and they are identical (Bar IP address etc ofc) Got a macbook thats working fine aswell so going to go up and plug it into the same network port see what happens, part of me is thinking it might be some of the music software that's doing this... but none of it seems to be running unless i tell it to. DalekSec Posted February 20, 2019 Author Posted February 20, 2019 The plot thickens.... well it becomes a lot harder to plough thats fo sho. Went up there with the macbook plugged into the same network cable, works fine. So it's not the network. Put the Studio mac on our unfiltered network (wifi) as well just in case, still doesn't work. Went through all the music software, Dante Virtual Soundcard was running on the main NIC but this shouldnt effect the wireless connection or even our network via the usb C dongle. Turned it off just to check, restarted the mac (Dante still off) anddddd... it still doesn't work. Out of things to try! Would try updating it but i canne go to Mojave as Avid Pro Tools doesn't support it yet (not that it's been out 5 months already or anything......)
Mustang Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 Can you do basic things like ping your file server, look it up in DNS, manually mount the file share via the netbios name or the fqdn, mount another file share on a different server etc

When i do it manually it works (only when going via the DFS share and not the \\Studentfileshare )

When using CMD+K i can get to it via \\server\* or \\domain.com\* i'm sure ( i did it last week can double check if needed) All macs bar caching server are running 10.13.6
