Low disk space, removed WSUS role from DC but hard drive space has not increased.

Recently took over a new primary school and the server is a mess. Both C & D drives are low on space and noticed that WSUS was installed on the DC which is not really a great idea, so thought I would remove the role and hopefully free up a bit of space.

After removing the role and rebooting I noticed I have not gained any space back, even though WSUS itself was listing a load of products in its database. I seem to remember WSUS listsing about 120gb of updates.

Should removing the role have given me back this space?

Where would WSUS updates have been stored and can I manually delete them?

Unfortunately not.

Run the following command from the Command Prompt and this will quickly tell you which folder WSUS was installed to (probably C:\WSUS). The updates will be in the WsusContent subfolder.

reg query "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Update Services\Server\Setup" /v ContentDir
