6Foot2 Posted February 12, 2019 Author Posted February 12, 2019 RIP a true gent of the sport and a truly amazing keeper.... I didn't know him, but he did seem really 'nice' ('Nice' because I want to use another word, but I can't think of one I'd be happy with.)
witch Posted February 12, 2019 Posted February 12, 2019 He did seem to be a very genuine sort of man, yes. Weirdly this has brought back my childhood which is so long ago that I thought Gordon was long dead. My mum, who would have been 89 this year had she lived, loved him even though we were a rugby family. She liked his little monkey face
ass17 Posted February 12, 2019 Posted February 12, 2019 Loved in Stoke too, a cult figure and loved to watch the potters when he could. RIP Gordon..
AJWhite1970 Posted February 12, 2019 Posted February 12, 2019 As a fully paid up member of the Number 1 Union myself, he was way ahead of his time. His positional awareness and reading of the game were and still are a lesson to many modern keepers, he maybe wasn't as agile as some of the top keepers these days (Pele save apart, you can't possibly have a spine to have saved that one!!) but he didn't have to be, like Shilton, Clemence and Schmeichel since, being in the right place at the right time made it look far easier than it actually is. Never met him personally but have seen many interviews with him over the years and he appeared a genuinely nice man. RIP
HarryMonkey Posted February 12, 2019 Posted February 12, 2019 This just illustrates what a gent he was. 1
