Hi

We've got five schools under one domain and we want it so that they only see their school and maybe staff at another

ie

bigschool.com

luton.bigschool.com

birmingham.bigschool.com

liverpool.bigschool.com

Any ideas?

Thanks

You might need to have each school as an additional domain within G Suite. That way each would have it's own, separate Directory and email domain name. I'm not sure how you'd share certain contacts into other schools' directories, though. You might have to resort to some sort of manual method, like listing them on a shared document or website.

Custom Directories is the way to go. We have 24 schools/organisations on our G Suite setup. Each school has its own custom directory and we have other ones that are things like allstaff across the trust. Based on Group membership. Yuo can user GAMADV-XTD to sync members of multiple OUs into one group.

The schools have got additional domains ie

[email protected]

[email protected]

[email protected]

etc

In that example, birmingham and liverpool are actually both on the same domain (bigschool.com), whereas luton is on its own subdomain (luton.bigschool.com), so more separate.

In G Suite, you may need to add luton.bigschool.com as an additional domain. I'm guessing that you also want the same for all the other schools as well. So:

[email protected]

[email protected]

[email protected]

In that case, you'd want luton.bigschool.com, birgmingham.bigschool.com and liverpool.bigschool.com added in G Suite as additional domains.

However, I'm not clear on how G Suite works when it comes to using subdomains. It's certainly possible to add different domains (i.e. lutonbigschool.com, birminghambigschool.com and liverpoolbigschool.com) but you'd need to register and maintain each of those domain names separately, rather than just having bigschool.com registered and managing everything under that. Have a look around the Interwebs and/or EduGeek for guidance specific to adding subdomains in G Suite.

Others on here may be able to tell you definitively about how the directory contact sharing behaves with additional domains. I'm only assuming that additional domains wouldn't list users from all the other domains as well, but I don't know for certain.
